Ideosync Media Combine is a not-for-profit organisation based in the National Capital Region of Delhi, India. Ideosync works on communication for social change (C4SC) and communication rights. We design communication frameworks and strategies for development interventions; as well as conceptualize and produce social change communication content (audio, visual, print and multimedia) through a rigorous process of community participation and formative research. Ideosync advocates for open, free and publicly owned media and works towards innovating with existing and new technologies to ensure equity of access to (and community ownership of) communication tools, technologies and media.
Ideosync works on media development by supporting community media (including community radio) through training on participatory content creation, knowledge sharing and peer learning practice; as well as innovations around participatory research. Over the last two decades, we have been at the forefront of work in the South Asian region on creating alternate discourses on communication, communication rights, media and media technologies. During this time, our work in communication for social change has engaged with issues that address marginalized concerns including sexual and reproductive health; adolescent sexuality and rights; gender and women’s rights; health; migrant rights; local self-governance; right to information and entitlements; environment and climate change; governance; democracy and freedom of expression.
We are looking for innovative, enthusiastic, and creative young professionals with competencies in the field of media and communication, Fact Checking, News Literacy, and Media Training to work as part of the Ideosync team.
About the Program
Our Free/Dem Media Pathshala initiative (www.freedem.in) works with young people living on the margins of Delhi, in slum colonies in and around the peripheral geographies of South Delhi. Under Free/Dem Digital Media Pathshala, women and young girls are trained in digital competencies, and media making skills including use of social media, creation of audio and video short podcasts and films. The program also includes Chauraha Screenings.
The initiative has now grown to formally engage with high school students in publicly funded schools in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. Over the next year we will be working to deliver DMIL, Fact Checking and News literacy workshops in over 100 schools across these states.
AboutthePosition
Your role will require you to:
Work as part of the training team and implement the media literacy, Fact Checking and News Literacy curriculum in the schools
Input into the Media and digital literacy training curriculum by adding new and innovative activities and design training media material using simple audio and video software
Document the training program and engage to build partnerships with the various schools and departments
Provide editorial guidance for media reports/ podcasts and short videos from the trainee students
Edit and finalize podcasts and videos produced by trainees
Organize stakeholder meetings and events
Coordinate with civil society partners and the Press to promote and publicize the work
Create regular social media posts that are innovative, well written and showcase the work on the ground
Create monthly activity reports, maintain field notes
Qualifications
Excellent English and Hindi writing and speaking skills. Additional Languages an asset
Excellent coordination and people skills
Excellent media skills with good knowledge News gathering and reporting; fact checking; Digital tools and Media Literacy
Ability to use audio and video recording and editing tools like audacity, premier pro, kinemaster, lexis audio, canva, microsoft office tools for smartphone and fact checking to create simple outreach content
Excellent competency in use of the Smart phone and key media applications
Clear understanding about Community Media, gender equality & Feminist philosophy
Excellent understanding of technology, website functioning, online media and social media
Fluency with computers especially all word processing and data software and ability to create presentations in MS Powerpoint, and manage reporting through use of Microsoft office tools
Media and communication training including a graduate/postgraduate degree in the field of Journalism, communication, technical media training
One year work experience in Fact Checking/media related work
Experience of training communities and creating media materials and media reports from the ground will be an asset
Media & Digital literacy related training will be an asset including on issues of online safety, misinformation and fake news
Have problem solving skills and capacity to think independently/ creatively to address issues on the ground
Be detail-oriented and have patience with community members and their skill sets
Contract and Remuneration
Ideosync will contract the DMIL and Fact Checking Trainer for a period of one year with the possibility of an extension. There will be a three-month period of probation. Remuneration will be in accordance with Ideosync's salary and fee scale policy and in keeping with the incumbent’s experience and qualifications; and will be comparable to national averages for not-for-profits working in the development sector.
